I'm Kind of Over this Whole Food Thing.

I live near a Yumchaa tea and coffee shop and they make a really good chia tea. Not like the ones you get in Starbucks or Costa with all the sugar, it’s just almond milk and chia. They tastes sweet and creamy but not too sweet. It’s my new favorite thing. As it’s the weekend we slept in so I didn’t really have a lunch and just skipped straight to dinner. I made Roasted Butternut Alfredo off of Kris’s website with zucchini noodles (ZOODLES!!!) and a side of Kale.
The recipe made a lot of sauce. Too much to cover just my zucchini noodles, so I ran to Whole Foods real quick to pick up some Shiratiaki noodles to add to the left over sauce. These are asian noodles that have no gluten and zero net carbs! They’re often called the miracle noodle because of this. Tom told me about them. I love pasta, but since discovering that my body seems to like it more when I stay carb light; I thought these noodles might be the answer to my prayers. And guess what guys. Shiratiaki noodles are DISGUSTING!! And EXPENSIVE! They have the taste and consistency of coagulated snot. What a waste of a good sauce. Luckily Whole Foods has a policy that if you buy something you’ve never tried, you can come back with your receipt and get your money back. So I walked in, explained the situation and got my money back. The noodles are still in my fridge if anyone is brave enough to come over and try them. I haven’t thrown them out yet. I’m hoping Tom will like them and I can give him the batch. I doubt he will though. Did I mention the have the taste and consistency of coagulated snot? You’re grossed out?!?! I’m the one who ate them!!
The night before Day 12 Tom and I went out to his friends Birthday party at a bar. Tom had beer I had soda water and fresh lime. Fun fact, when you’re drinking in a bar looks like gin and tonic, so no one asks you why your not drinking. I realized that’s the first time this whole month I had been out socially at night. I’ve gone out to lunch with people and gone to gigs then come straight home, but that’s it. And going out the other night made me realize how much I miss it. Not only that but because we weren’t dining out, no one new about my whole food challenge so I didn’t talk about it at all. I didn’t realize how much this has effected my social life. There’s things I’m definitely keeping in my life once this is done. But I’ll be glad to relax a bit in the coming months and not have to ask the waiter if the vinaigrette dressing has sugar or honey in it. Or be restricted to eating one or two options on the menu.
Going this strict for me has been good. Because if I had started out giving myself leniencies in the beginning, I would have collapsed into a bowl of ice cream weeks ago. But I’m ready to ease up now. I’ve been really wanting to see The Hateful Eight at the theatre and haven’t gone because I love movie popcorn and was nervous smelling it would be too much a temptation. I’d like to go to the movies and get a soda and a popcorn. Or every once in a while a bagel…god, I miss bagels.
