LAST DAY OF PALEO!
Woke up, had a green juice for breakfast. Bacon, eggs, and mushrooms for lunch. And Lamb shank out of the crockpot from The PPC. I also took a yoga class at Fierce Grace and my body is tight. The only time I’ve ever felt really athletic and been able to do anything physically impressive was when I was doing lots of yoga. I don’t like that I’ve lost so much of that work. I need to be more consistent with my yoga practice. It’s the only way to make it better.
For my last Paleo meal Tom and my friend James Loveridge came over. We had lamb, greens, and grilled pineapple with cinnamon for dessert. They had wine. I had tea. It was a great meal and I’m glad I got to share it with them. Now that I’ll move over to vegan I’m not sure how much cooking I’ll be doing for other people. It’s easy to get my boyfriend to say yes when I ask him over to help me eat beef pot roast. I think it might be a bit more challenging to get him to my house when I’m trying to make cheese out of nutritional yeast. (Yes, it sounds gross to me to, but I’m gonna try.)
All and all I think Paleo is a doable life style though I was annoyed with the whole no legumes and rice thing. But I was eating whole foods and I ate until i felt satisfied with every meal. I never felt deprived or like I was starving myself. The thing that bugs me about the Paleo diet is the same thing that bugged me since day one. Is diet where all your protein comes from meat and eggs good for the environment? I’m aware the factory farming doesn’t just exist in the livestock category. Whole forrest are cut down to mass produce fruits and vegetables as well, mainly corn. But if we all ate less meat would that be better for the environment over all? I dunno.
I have hopped on the scale and am pretty happy with the results. Over 14 days of Paleo eating and regular exercise and I’ve lost two pounds. That’s a pound a week and I think that’s pretty healthy weight loss. In total I’ve lost 8.4 pounds and I didn’t gain any of the weight back from the juice cleanse which I still find astonishing. So just to review, I haven’t had alcohol, sugar (no honey, no agave, the only sugar has been whole fruits), dairy, wheat, or any other cereal grains for the last 17 days. I get the occasional craving for bread or pasta but I’m not craving any junk food. The thing I’ve craving the most is coffee, I miss the ceremony of making myself a cup in the morning.
I’m glad I did the Paleo diet and using The Performance Paleo Cookbook has given me new ideas for food that’ll I continue using after this challenge is complete. I’ll defiantly make courgette noodles and cauliflower rice during the Vegan weeks. But not tomorrow. Tomorrow I have beans and rice.
