One More Vice Out the Window

SAY GOODBYE TO MORNING TRADITION.
I said I’d let myself sleep in and boy did I sleep in! I woke up at the 12:30pm! That’s over 12 hours of sleep. We could say my body needed it. Or I could be honest and just say when left to my own devices, I sleep forever. Once up, I made myself a cup hot lemon water with cayenne pepper. It’s something Kris Carr recommends inCrazy Sexy Diet. It’s supposed to help restore the PH balance in your body. The reason for this rather tasteless concoction? I’ve added another element to the challenge. For the last 19 days no coffee.
Along with coffee having caffeine, which studies have shown is as addictive as alcohol or heroin, it’s also a high mold toxin food. Also too much caffeine can over work your adrenal glands. The adrenal glands sit just above your kidneys and are in charge of producing hormones like cortisol (which helps your body regulate stress and metabolism) and aldosterone (helps control blood pressure). When they’re over stimulated they can pump the body with too much cortisol effecting digestion, metabolism, and mental function. I’ve been drinking coffee since I was a teenager and have between one and three cups a day. I thought I’d give it up and let my adrenal glands rest and see if it made a difference in my over-all health. SurprisinglyI haven’t gotten a headache today which has happened before when I’ve tried to give up coffee, but my brain feels a little foggy, probably because of the withdraw.
Other than that the day has been drama free. I had a green smoothie for breakfast. I put berries and greens in it, I even added a chili to see how that would be. It tasted great but looked like mud. Then I headed to Crossfit. I made a lot of smoothie so I had the same thing for lunch as well. And for dinner I made Courgette Noodles with Arugula, Bacon, and Burst Cherry Tomatoes, out of The PPC. I’m a little over red meat at the moment so I substituted the bacon for chicken. PS the noodles were FABULOUS!!! I totally recommend them if you’ve never tried them. They don’t last exactly like wheat pasta but the consistency is pretty close. Maybe I just think that because I haven’t had carbs in 13 days but I really liked them. In fact I wish I had made more because I’m kinda craving them now.
I think the best part of this experiment has been learning to make and eat new foods that I would have otherwise dismissed. I think I’m going to make one more large dish out the The Performance Paleo Cookbook as this part of the experiment winds down. I’m trying not to acquire too many leftovers though. Two weeks of being vegan is just around the corner.
